3 Tbs corn starch
3Tbs baking soda
3Tbs vinegar

3Tbs vinegar
1 1/2 tsp of corn syrup
food coloring

Mix first four ingredients in a bowl. Enjoy the fizzing combination and then pour small amount into little containers. We used empty applesauce cups.
Add 6-8 drops of food coloring. Mix well.
Have fun painting right away or allow the paint to harden in the containers for future paint days.
Once again, I stand in awe of the simple craftiness that seems to be an integral part of your life! I actually picked up the 'ingredients' for this at the grocery store this morning (it took me FOREVER to find corn syrup!), and this is on our post-nap afternoon plan. Thanks for sharing something so fun again! (BTW-- I made those no bake chocolate cookies... and just kept eating them... not conducive to weight loss... I'm in serious need of some self-control!) :)
Where did you get the cool brushes - I like that they are big - and cool colors as well!
Carol in FL
Carol,we borrowed them from my mom (she's an art teacher) but you can find them or something similar at Lakeshore Learning's website. Dick Blick also has a good catalogue and site for quality art supplies. And in Jacksonville, Redi Arts is a nice local art store to visit. I would also recommend getting some thicker paper or watercolor paper if you use these paints. How are things in Jax? Hope that storm doesn't hit too hard.
FABULOUS! I love this tutorial and your blog. I'm adding you to my reader and linking to this project in the Daily DIY. Thanks again!
Thank you for sharing such a great recipe!!! My kids will love this.
Saw this on TCC..This looks beautiful and awesome. I've been looking to make paints at home, since they can be SO expensive at the store.... And you KNOW that 2 year olds are not very conservative when it comes to crafting supplies! Thank you!
This looks great...thanks!
One question: what is the purpose of the corn syrup? Is there a possible substitute (glycerin?). We have ant issues. :( TIA!
Dawn,
Since I didn't make the recipe (got it from kids concoctions book), I am not sure what could replace the syrup but I would play around...and let me know what you discover. Have fun!
I did this with my boys this morning and they loved it! Thanks so much for sharing.
I love it! Thanks so much!
We are so trying this!
I love this idea! We are a very art focused family and I love anything that helps us cut our art supply costs without cutting out our actual supplies!
Thanks for the recipe!
The paint brushes are similar to crayola ones, love this idea btw, alway wondered if i could make my own, now i can. Thanks :)
I just mixed some up for my 4yo. she's a color and kitchen helping fiend so this was right up her alley. thanks for posting it!
You're a wealth of good times ideas :)
I love this!! I'm totally gonna try it at home or at school! PS, I think my family looks quite a bit like yours! ;)
This is fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing! My 5 year old paints every day and this will be just perfect for him!!!
