Travel Photo Friday: On The Go

October 9, 2009

This was the souvenir Noah brought back from Rome. He tried to convince us that an outrageously, overpriced Transformer would be a good souvenir. Luckily, he and Adam found this cool little car. Before having kids, I never fully appreciated the many attributes of matchbox cars. Now I do. They are perfect travel toys. Small, portable, and good for all ages and genders. And they make good souvenirs, too. We have a nice little collection of Asian vehicles and now we have started our European collection.

We are in the midst of doing some major Sicilian site-seeing. We have our first visitors from the States (Nana and Poobah). Having visitors is always good motivation to get out and explore. I will return to posting on the blog next week. I am sure there will be lots to report. On the current itinerary: a castle tour, ricotta cheese making, The Valley of the Temples, Taormina, soccer games, an agriturisimo, Caltagirone, cupcake making, and lots of other good stuff.

Hope your weekend is filled with good stuff, too.

That's a good way to kill 2 birds in one stone. Souvenir and toy all in one. :)

Can't wait to hear more about your tour in your new town. I agree that visitors give us more motivation to go out and explore our own town.

My son has a huge collection of cars to begin with so when we started letting him pick out his own souvenirs, we try to guide him to the cars because you are right-they are perfect! We also have a bunch from our travels now-the Reese's race car, London taxi and bus, a smart car, etc. I can't wait to hear about your visit!

You're going to love Taormina...one of my favorite places ever! Where exactly are you located?

Nice idea for a souvenir, he will always remember his trip. Ricotta cheesemaking sounds delicious.

Just be glad he went for a car. We have trading cards from all over the place. The language issue just never goes away ;)
p.s. We stayed at an agroturismo last year and had a great experience - I hope yours is just as much fun.

Great souvenir idea! My boys have a Spammobile from the Spam Museum, but I should look for more.

Cars are great souvenirs! My favorite is the little Smart car we got in London a few years ago. I think my son could arrange quite an international traffic jam with his car collection.

The toy cars are a great souvenir idea! So far, we've been collecting t-shirts for my daughter (which we put away and save, even after she's outgrown them). But I think we need to try the car idea too!

Yahoo for guest! My children have a really fantastic collection of German Hot wheels. I always seem to have a couple in my purse and lately have come in handy when we have had to wait somewhere. Fantastic car btw!

Great idea for a souvenir. We collect maps and tshirts, but probably my son would appreciate toys more. I'll try a car next time too. Enjoy exploring Sicily.

I brought my husband a tiny bullet train from Japan. He loved it. And I agree, little vehicles -- iconic in some way -- make the perfect souvenir!

I can see where a collection of these little cars would make a great souvenir and collection. We like CDs an books (although books can get heeeeaaavy to lug home!). But there's always jewelry :)

Sounds like you have a great holiday planned! Did you ever find the number for Borgo Antico? I have two numbers for them: 339-129-8992 OR 340-087-8462. I think either number should work, so enjoy!
