Winter Treasures

January 24, 2008

A few winter finds that have been on our kitchen table recently:Poppy seed pods from Aunt Janet's garden. We planted the seeds yesterday in hopes of having a nice spring patch of poppies. Aren't the pods interesting just by themselves?
These funny "gumballs" are from our sweet gum tree in the back yard....keep thinking we can do some projects with these little guys.
Pecans that we picked while in Louisiana (thanks Vicki!) we won't be paying outrageous amounts of money for those little packets of chopped pecans in the baking section.

Those poppy seed pods are very interesting. Your photo of them looks like it belongs in Better Homes and Gardens. :) How I wish pecans grew in the Northwest! It's mostly hazelnuts for us.

We've had some fun with those "pokey balls" (as we very unaffectionately call them as we walk through the backyard barefoot during the warm months!) "painting" with them. Roll them in paint and then roll them on paper in a shoe box lid ala marble painting.

Great idea about "painting" with them. Thanks!
