Chocolate and Artichokes

February 16, 2010

Yesterday started with a tour of the Condorelli chocolate factory, then on to their delicious bakery/cafe, followed by a leisurely lunch on the side of Mt. Etna, snowball fights with the kids, and ended with freshly picked artichokes. One of the things I love most about living in Sicily is buying fresh produce from little trucks on the side of the road. I really do love it. Artichoke season is starting here. Yesterday's roadside purchase: 25 artichokes for 5 Euros! Kind of like chocolate, is it possible to ever have too many artichokes? I don't think so, but twenty-five is a lot so I did share them with friends. Still can't believe how tasty yesterday's adventure was. Artichokes and Chocolate all in one day. Delicious!

I love citrus chocolate covered Condorelli torrone! That's how Condorelli became famous up north, with their little chocolate covered torroni. I haven't seen them in years. And I love artichokes too ... I always hated them as a child, and I learned to love them as an adult in Rome. Now my favorite kind of artichokes are the spiny ones, uncooked, in a salad. Buon appetito!

This post title caught my eye! A chocolate factory visit- how cool!!Artichokes, yum! They are the same prices here, you can't beat local in season produce! Are you enjoying the blood oranges? I think the season has just started!
Thank you for your comment on capers, I will certainly look up the books on Iran you mentioned.
BTW She did talk quiet a bit about her mother in the interview.

Mmmmm. Two of my favorite things. I have loved artichokes since I was a kid and had so much fun tearing off each leaf and dipping them in butter, so I thought my daughter would enjoy them too. No such luck. I have no problem, however, getting her to eat chocolate.

I'd take as many artichokes and chocolates anyone wanted to give me. :)
