Watercolor Valentines
February 5, 2010 • Art Group, Celebrating, Creating
Art group made watercolor valentines today. Aren't they beautiful? A few notes for future: (1) these liquid watercolors are great, (2) cardboard works well as a protective barrier for the floor, (3) taping down the paint cups (applesauce/yogurt containers) prevents spills with the younger ones, (4) must invest in some good watercolor paper for future projects, and (5) be prepared to move quickly. The kids pumped out one valentine after another at a very quick pace which kept the mamas moving this morning...refilling paint, cutting out more hearts, trying to find enough drying spots, etc. We left most of them in the closet to dry. Can't wait to see how they will look when totally dry.

Great idea and really beautiful!!!
Very cute! Happy Valentines Day next week!
What a sweet idea, (good tip on the cardboard backing too). Its a national holiday here on Wednesday so I was thinking of doing some Valentines themed arts and crafts with the kids, will definitely include this. Thanks!
These are beautiful, and I'm sure the kids had fun with them!
CUTE! (And Hannah loves to paint, believe it or not - better than crayons!)
I always love the projects that you write about and these certainly made me smile. What if you strung a line and used clothes pins for them to dry? What about using white candles to draw on them first and then paint in a sort of wax resist method. Easter eggs might be good that way.
I love when kids get so creative. Bravo to you for making it happen. Hope your house (and hearts) get filled with beautiful colors this Valentines!
Love the cardboard idea - newspaper just does not cut it! Always looking for projects for grandchildren - thanks for sharing!
You are the best and so are your young artists! They are just beautiful!
absofabbylutely delicious! i love the idea of taping the cups, and i have to admit that i am really impressed that the hearts stayed on the cardboard. in our house, the papers go everywhere but on the intended surface. let's just say that glitter paint is no longer allowed in our house. on the upside, everything around here is shining!
I think that we are going to be doing something similar this week.
So simple, but so artistic. I'd love to receive a Valentine like that!
I want those watercolors! Those are beautiful valentines.
