Lots of very interesting Tiger Mom talk among my friends, some of Asian descent. The princess one looks more interesting to me. Thanks for the tip.

Yes, I have read the first book you mentioned. While I know she had a change of heart later on when her 13 year old rebelled. I found her to be extremely harsh and almost abusive. While I believe we need to have expectations for our children I do think that children need to have a childhood because so much of their lives are spent being adults. This book has been a huge topic in our home because my husband and I disagree. He being an academic sees all the Asian students in his classroom and fears that our children will not be able to compete in the market place. However, it was after on of his Indian friends who wrote a right up on this book in Business Week that said while the Chinese approach works well it does little to create intellectual creativity. Examples given where Bill Gates, Jeff Bazos of Amazon, and many other leaders. I am interested to see what you think.

opps, I guess writing at a quarter to six in the morning is not such a good thing. Should have read before I pushed the send button. Anyway, what I was trying to say about my husband was that he had a change of heart after reading his friends write up. Hope this makes more sense.

I love your lists. Thanks for sharing Vivian Maier with us. From what I can see, she was a master at capturing emotion. Her photos and mystic definitely draw you in.

Me again. Both Tigers and Princess look amazing! Thanks for putting them on my radar. Feel so out of the book loop these days.

thank you for this great list! I've just added Ponyo to our netflix queue, have put the great backyard bird watch on our calendar, and have spent the last 15 minutes looking at the Vivian Maier blog.

we recently watched ponyo too. it's such a great movie! we've actually been watching a lot of japanese anime (sp?) films for movie night lately. tonight was kiki's flying delivery service. highly recommend it, if you have not already seen it.

i haven't read either of those books, but have of course heard of the tiger mom one (is it possible that anyone has not heard of it?). i'm intrigued, and will be interested to know what you think!

and vivian maier--so very inspiring and moving.
