Palermo

October 28, 2010

Palermo: full of energy, layers of grit and history, puppets, secret courtyards, honking traffic, fresh seafood, Norman, Baroque, Arabic, majestic, watch out for dog poop on the sidewalks, talk to the locals, and wander, just wander.

Some of our favorite spots during this recent trip:
Vucciria Market
The Marionette Museum (call ahead for schedule of performances)
Climbing the banyan trees in Giardino Garibaldi Park
Touring the Massimo Opera House (English Tours available)

Hey Lucia!
I'm Jeanne..Johanna's mom.
Next time you're up that way...be sure to make the drive out to Monreale...beautiful Norman church there.
Jo told me about your blog. Wonderful pictures! I've really enjoyed checking in from time to time1

Hi Jeanne, what a nice surprise to get your comment...my kids still talk about how much they miss Johanna (me, too!) We did go to Monreale and we loved it. I actually think it is one of the most stunning churches we have seen since moving to Italy...and we have seen a lot of churches! I'll try to post pics of Monreale soon but really nothing does it justice like seeing it in person, does it?

I love the puppet photo!!! I just had French friends write to me today asking if Palermo is worth a visit. Though I have conflicting feelings about the city, this post is nudging me to say YES!

Wow, this is awesome. I like eating in the streets while I am on vacations. And in Argentina there is also a place called Palermo. Which is very nice, like the one that you show in your pictures. I didn't know about the existence of such neighborhood, but searching Argentina apartments in internet I foun out that Palermo was the best place for staying in Buenos Aires.
