We dyed eggs last night and discovered the beauty of using crayons directly on warm eggs...as the wax melts it morphs into some very cool designs. We then dunked the eggs in dye to see what would happen on the wax-free areas and voila! It was fun and brought back some good memories from past Easters. The kids will be celebrating Easter today with mom. We will all be missing crawfish and egg hunting at Aunt Janet's, but I am sure the kids will enjoy hunting for eggs in Sicily, while Adam and I learn how Easter is celebrated in Amsterdam. And speaking of multicultural experiences, here is our favorite Easter story from David Sedaris. Wishing you all a very Happy Easter! Buona Pasqua! Vrolijk Pasen!

I am laughing so hard there are tears running down my cheeks. The Sedaris piece is a classic. You have NO idea how many times I listen to stuff like this in my classes.
And yet somehow the kids can't figure out WHY I tell them not to translate directly from English to Spanish...
I just LOVE this guy. What a storyteller.
BTW.. we have just discovered Mo Willems books. Isabel was in convulsions of laughter over There's A Bird On Your Head.
Happy Easter/Passover/Spring!
that is brilliant! why have i never thought to use colored crayons (vs. just the white ones) before dyeing? dang. the kids would have loved that. well, next year!! have a great easter! off to listen to the david sedaris story. awake at 4:30am on easter? i need some cheering up!
My mom loved making pysanky eggs with us for easter. Pysanky is basically the same as using crayons, but with plain wax and more detail.
Happy Easter! :)
I do love a good crayon-on-egg project! Very fun. We especially like the white crayons so it's is sort of secret ink.
What beautiful eggs!
