Wow!! Beautiful photos, but a little unnerving I imagine!! I think I will be showing these photos to my class tomorrow as I am covering a topic of volcanoes and we have been discussing the activity in the region.

I had to share a funny...my sis-in-law took her dad to Costa Rica a couple of years ago as a treat for him. One afternoon she told him she was pretty sure the nearby volcano was erupting (I guess you could see spewing ash). He told her v. officiously no, no, but that night they could clearly see the red lava glowing as it poured out.
I think I mentioned to you before that we could see a small eruption from our home in Guatemala. The volano we would climb all the time, Pacaya, erupted just last May. It's hard to wrap my mind around that I walked in that caldera years ago, with the bottoms of my shoes nearly melting in the heat.
Incredible! I think that Mt. Etna was a clue in a crossword I did last week... I didn't imagine that it would be erupting only days later. I'm glad that you all are safe!
My son will LOVE this. He is a volcano fanatic. He goes to Guatemala to hike the volcanoes there and he's only 10.
