Brookside Gardens |
Over the past few weeks sunny spots of yellow in the form of daffodils, witch hazel, and forsythia have started to spring into action. They are a stark and welcome contrast to the wintery greys and browns that still linger. It's a different palette from the bright red poppies in Sicily and the delicate pinks of Japanese magnolias, but it's just as invigorating and hopeful.
I celebrated the first day of spring by visiting Brookside Gardens. It's been on my to-see list for awhile. Looking forward to returning when more is in bloom.
I never believe it's actually spring around these parts 'til I see the Forsythia blooming (or Ladybird Johnson's daffodils those few times I head downtown, but the darn things seem to like snow anyway). Brookside's a wonderful place to get away almost anytime; my folks go there often to walk, and it's nice to take the whole family. Be sure to catch their annual live butterfly exhibit, and also their huge arrangements of walk-through holiday lights in December & January!
That is a very good one. When you have a chance and are over that way please try to see Green Springs Gardens park in Annandale, VA. One of my former employers a long, long time ago. But a very interesting park. They also have very popular plant sales. Martha
