Exploring: The Turkish Steps

Bright white, rippled ridges, jutting out from the southern Sicilian coast like a piece of frilly wedding cake just waiting to be climbed and consumed. And that's just what we did a few weekends ago when we had some close friends visiting us from the States. After exploring the dramatic landscape of Agrigento and a fun farm stay at Villa San Marco (beautiful views of the temples lit up at night), we ventured south to the Turkish Steps. Ever since reading Madeline's post about this unique spot, I have been itching to visit and I am so glad that we finally did.

So beautiful! I know this might sound like a dumb question, but is Sicily safe. We are going next summer and my husband is a little worried about safety. Also, when you travel off the island to the main land do you take a ferry or do you fly. Everyone is saying to fly and rent a car. We will be coming from Milan. Thanks, Kelleyn

Kellyn, we haven't had any safety issues here in Sicily except for some issues with crazy drivers and extreme potholes. We usually fly off the island but we have also taken the ferry. There is a fair amount of road construction in South Italy right now so if you can get cheap flights (which are usually easy to find) do that or you might also want to consider taking an overnight ferry from Genoa, Naples or Rome. E-mail and I am happy to give plenty of Sicilian details and tips.
