Summer Reading

June 2, 2011

Dappled morning light, bright green leaves, heavy humid air, my aunt's front porch:: summer reading in St.Martinville, Louisiana.

We've been spending lots of time with Tin Tin, Pippi, and Harry. What about you? Any good summer reading suggestions?

Seriously, that porch is a dream. How lucky are you to be able to sit out on it and enjoy southern living. I can just imagine sitting out there with a mason jar filled with lemonade or for you a glass of sweet tea. Enjoy!

That's so southern. I wish I was there. Thanks to your tip about keeping my US library card I am now downlaoding an audio book every week or so to listen to while cleaning or cooking. Currently At Home by Bill Bryson. Have a great visit and eat a few fried oysters for me.

I just read Tina Fey's Bossypants, which was fun. For the kids- they are re-reading Mary Poppins series and Ginger Pye is FANTASTIC. Happy summer! I highly recommend audio books on your iPad for the kids on the plane- they even have Knuffle Bunny at our library!

Brooke is on her way and beyond excited!!! She has been "shopping" for treats for her cousins for weeks and was positively buzzing this morning! I hope that she will sit still next to Nana on the airplane. Have a wonderful visit!

Tom's Midnight Garden by Philippa Pearce- I LOVED this book when I was a girl and just read it to my 8 year old son. It's wonderful!

Just finished reading Eva Pippi and Pippi in the South Seas. Now we've turned to . . . .JUNIE B JONES! Heard such mixed things about these books when I was teaching. Wasn't sure about reading them with Eva, but my mom bought her 2 for xmas. The biggest surprise is, I think they are hilarious!! Seriously laughing out loud. Yes, Junie has a horrible mouth on her but the books are so freaking funny. I can feel for her parents to be sure. Each time Junie does something naughty or says something ugly, Eva looks at me and giggles to herself. Anyhoo, have a look through one if you get the chance. Tell me what you think. Noah may get a kick out of them too. One of Eva's male friends loves Junie books and now they are swapping. Can't wait for the next one. Blush. xo

It really feels good whenever I hear or see that kids are reading on summertime. A lot of kids actually traded books for gaming platforms and likes. Let's all try get them into reading
