Living in Hawaii we don't have the traditional maple leaves and acorns to signify the arrival of fall either. Instead breadfruit and starfruit are in season, our days are getting a tiny bit shorter and surf on the south shore is starting to flatten out.
What does breadfruit taste and look like? Sounds so exotic and a bit odd...would love to learn more about that fall treat. Happy Autumn to you in Hawaii!
"The golden rod is yellow, the corn is turning brown, the trees in apple orchards, with fruit are bending down." That poem I memorized in 7th grade describes September so well in these parts. Maine shines at this time of year. The cool, crisp air of October gives way to nature’s fantastic golds, reds and oranges - all the more vibrant against the deep sapphire of the ocean. It is spectacular, really. Fall was meant for New England! Apple cider, dwindling daylight, cold noses, down vests, squash soup, pumpkin whoopie pies. That’s autumn for me.
So nice to see your posts again. I love reading about your adventures!

Jeannette, I am impressed that you remember that little Fall poem! I have always wanted to experience Autumn in your neck of the woods...hopefully one day. Wouldn't that be a fun reunion with all of our kids?
Likes Chocolate, here's a confession...I am not a big apple lover, but I do chop up a lot of apples every day for my kids. Have any good recipes that might convince me to be become an apple fan?

The chill of the morning is lasting for longer and longer, but the coming from Southern California this is my first time watching the leaves change here in Rome and it's amazing!
Lovely post. Those apples look delicious - shame you're not an apple fan! Have you tried Apple cake? It's delicious and I'm sure it would convert you!
Michigan is big apple country, but we also have a lot of pumpkins and squash this time of year (I love the different varieties and colors of squash here!).
The leaves are pretty much changed and falling here by this time of year.
I love autumn...it's the six months of November that typically follows it here that doesn't do as much for me.
I'm sure you remember... here in Japan some are the same - apples, chestnuts - along with gold-brown Asian pears, orange persimmons and mandarins, and purple sweet potatoes to match the changing leaves. Cosmos, chrysanthemums, and pansies blooming in any available nook and cranny. Ahhh... how I love fall!
Plums! The purple Quetsch (sp?) variety - preserves, tarts and from the tree. And of course, apples - lots of apple tarts! Great post!
