Stolen fortune

December 14, 2008

To the thieves who broke into our van this weekend:

Hope you enjoy the nice camera and the box of fortune cookies. But I really wish you had taken some of the other things with you...like the multiplying mounds of garbage and junky drive-thru toys. Or that annoying children's music cd that I keep meaning to toss out. Thank you for not taking the enormous Tonka recycling truck waiting to be wrapped. That was very kind of you. You must have known that was Noah's only holiday request this year. If you have a chance, could you please make prints of those photos from Noah's good-bye party with his class last week and stick them in our mailbox? And could you please mail that other package that you stole? I am sure once you open it you will discover that some fortune cookie ornaments and a homemade bookmark weren't quite the treasures you had been hoping to find (but if you mailed the box by tomorrow I would still make the deadline for the holiday book club exchange). I imagine things must be pretty rough for you right now, but they aren't super easy for me either and now I have another thing to add to this year's list of crappy happenings. I hope your luck changes soon, but even more than that I selfishly hope my luck changes sooner.

Sincerely,
One pissed off cookie

Oh Lucia-- I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. That's just completely outrageous. Good luck getting everything back on track-- from what I know about everyone at the Nook, everyone would understand about the SS gift!

I'm glad that the truck was still there-- at least there's something positive, right? (Yeah, I tend to focus on the crap, so that's me really trying hard...) :)

I'm sorry. That really stinks.

That stinks! (Though one of your coolest qualities is that you are witty even when ticked off...)

I'm so sorry. That is rotten luck.

I'm sure your book group will understand.

Che terribile! (that was the word of the day yesterday I think!).

I had my car broken into like 5 times in NOLA. Just sucked. But, one time someone actually found all my crap in a little pile on the side of the road and returned it! It wasn't much, but it was something (including my license!). So maybe that little cookie will make it back to you yet!

Sorry to hear this happened. What a drag on the holiday spirit. I hope something wonderful happens for you today to help put this behind you! Best wishes.

No WAY! That is seriously horrible. Hey, at least you have a good excuse for not having sent your gift yet . . . unlike me . . .

I wouldn't even be worried about the SS gift.

What a terrible thing to have happen! I'm sorry someone felt they needed to take from you - not just your things but the feelings of happiness and goodness and also the memories from the camera. They probably didn't even think about that. At least they didn't take your sense of humor.

Hope things go much much easier!

That just sucks!
I am so sorry, Lucia.

Thats awful. I hate when things like that happen because I feel like Im "owed" for being wronged....so I just end up pissed off.

Man, I chased that Japanese dude down, 30-some weeks pregnant after he stole $3 from me, I hate to think what I would have done to someone if I caught them stealing my camera and gifts out of my car. ;)

Oh the VIOLATION! Our van was broken into in our carport one night (attached to our house). So annoying. Stole Matt's Blackberry and the OWNER's MANUAL for our 2001 Mazda MPV. Guess there's a street value for owner's manuals...

Fortunately the Blackberry was gov't issued so that didn't set us back. Another time our rental car loaded with a few thousand dollars worth of fly fishing gear and rods plus recently purchased gifts was broken into one vacation. (The perps were miraculously caught and our stuff and MY BROTHERS CAR were restored to us)

It sucks. I wish I could give you a big hug. That sweet little gift and your camera that takes such beautiful pictures. : ( at least you download more regularly than some...

Lucia, what a 2008 huh? I am so sorry to hear about the theft. Hopefully that will be the end of bad luck.

By the way, I love the fortune cookie!

The camera I understand -- though it's totally crappy about the pictures -- but the box of really cute fortune cookie ornaments? Sigh. Some people.

That bites.

Happy Holidays anyway. I'm sure whomever was your Secret Santa will understand. :)
